Memorial day is the perfect time to get away and visit the beach. Memorial day is the start of the summer season for many. People come from all corners of the country to celebrate the holiday in Ocean City Maryland. From festivals to farmers markets there is no shortage of activities to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in Ocean City.
On Memorial Day we honor those who have served our country. Many of the events that take place at the shore on memorial day weekend are patriotic because of the nature of the holiday. That being said, it is also the kick off of the summer season at the shore so that also plays a role in the activities that are scheduled as well.
Spring Arts and Crafts Show
This event will be held Saturday and Sunday of Memorial day weekend. Admission to the event is free. The events will be held at the Convention Center. The event will feature garden accessories, jewelry, candles, florals, nautical items, wood crafts and other homemade items. It will also feature handmade chocolates and fudge along with dip mixes.
OC Beach Lights
This event will be held at the Oceanside Boardwalk Inlet through 27th. The event is free of charge. The event will feature a special patriotic show Saturday and Sunday of Memorial day weekend. A five-story inflatable sphere gives off visual laser. lighting, special effects, video and audio production that can be seen from most area son the boardwalk. Each show is roughly 8 minutes in length.
May Flowers Day Hike
This event will take place in Pocomoke River State Park. The event is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four. The event will have participants learning about wild flowers while they hike a small section of trail.
Spring Sounds Night Hike
This event will take place in Pocomoke River State Park. The event is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four. The event will have participants hiking a small section of trail as they are guided in the dark.
Justin’s Beach House Memorial Day 5K
This fun 5K or 2 mile features a boardwalk finish. Both of the events will be chip-timed for accuracy. After the race there will also be a party on the boardwalk, with tech shirts for all of the participants who pre-registered, awards for overall, masters and age groupers and free goodie bags.
Ocean Pines Farmers Market
Open on Saturday of Memorial day weekend, this market is the perfect place to get fresh produce and seafood for your BBQ. The market features, produce, farm fresh eggs, organics, seafood, herbs, flowers, honey, apples, artisan breads, natural pet treats, potatoes, greens, tomatoes, pumpkins, kettle corn and crafts.
