Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

“Bueller, Bueller?”

This beloved story about a teenager roping his two best friends into the adventure of their lives is brimming with charm, wit and a feeling of teenage hope for the horizon.  Directed by John Hughes and starring Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck, this film will make you want to get outside and have an adventure filled with exploration and discovery on the very next sunny day.  Now all that’s left is to eat up the rest of your rainy day time.  Luckily, here are a few more suggestions on how to do just that.

Midnight in Paris

Although Ocean City is not Paris, this film depicting a struggling writer dealing with marriage woes and magical midnight wanderings into the past, mirrors the unpredictability of the sea with the unpredictability of the magic that gently slides the main character into the roaring twenties of past France.  The film is directed by Woody Allen and stars Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody and Carla Bruni.  Owen Wilson plays a screenwriter struggling to finish his novel while on vacation in Paris France.  One night at midnight he is transported back into the 1920s and meets and converses with numerous famous people of the era, including Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald.  When finishing this quiet movie you might be tempted to book a trip to Paris, but stick around, as the next film will make you want to stay right by the ocean.

The Little Mermaid

The Disney classic that started the Disney Renaissance, this movie will delight and inspire you, and make you want to hunt the seas for lovestruck mermaids and vicious sea witches.  It makes the ocean as treasured as the merpeople swim and sing in harmony with all the creatures of the deep.  Released in 1989, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, and starring Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes and Pat Carroll, this animated musical fantasy film will delight people of all walks of life and perhaps even reveal the wonder of the sea.
This is just a taste of what movies can be seen on a day when the sun isn’t glowing and the sky is weeping its natural tears of life.  Watch these movies for the fun, adventure and magic that they inspire and take that inspiration out onto the shore for a wonderful day.
